5.3 a: Information literacy model discussion post – reflection Lupton (2012)

It is surprising that information literacy (IL) has been omitted from the Australian curriculum. I can see that this would be problematic, does this mean that it can be easily overlooked? TL’s can fill the void by creating links for IL to the curriculum. The General capabilities, critical and creative thinking and ICT, would provide greater connections to IL, particularly with the use of an IL model. Students would be able to question, plan, process, analyse, evaluate and communicate information at a deeper level, in tune with their interests or learning journey. I can see students addressing valid sources of information, problem solving, asking questions, finding information, processing and transforming information. Reflection, a valuable part of the inquiry process, provides opportunity for critical thinking.
