The School Structure and the Library

The school I have previously been in the Library was particularly involved in the Priority Area of Literacy. I was lucky enough to be placed on supervising one class per fortnight in their reading. The program used was called Accelerated Reader. Students were given time in year 7 and 8 to read books of interest. I used the time to read to students as well as listen to them read. Students who did not like reading chapter books (in English) could choose books that were of interest, either through a topic or subject they found engaging or a level that engaged them. Pigs and Honey and The Rabbits were engaging books, yes picture books! These were two books I read to the students but it opened the opportunity for students to extend their analysis if that is what they needed or provide students with an access point to activities that were accessible online (engaging students in the ICT General Capability).

The attached School Organisation is partially what I have seen between two schools and imagined. Budget and staffing constraints really impact the libraries opportunities to provide activities that engage students in educational outcomes identified in the General Capabilities and Priority Areas.

Edit: Yes I am aware there is typos in the School Structure (my apologises).
