FORUM 2.2
Module 2.1 Selection and AITSL Standards
The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (2014) states that all teachers should have the ability to “select and use resources” (Standard 3.4)
When the TL collaborates with teachers in resourcing the curriculum and meeting the needs of the teacher, the TL needs to have knowledge of individual teaching styles as well as the professional teaching stage they are currently at and aspiring to achieve eg graduate, proficient, highly accomplished and lead).
The Lead teaching competency depicts the level qualified TL should be practicing in their role. “Lead teachers “model exemplary skills and lead colleagues in selecting, creating and evaluating resources, including ICT, for application by teachers within or beyond the school.”
Responsibility for resource selection
How the Teacher Librarian’s expertise and role is different from other teachers.
Teacher Librarian’s(TL) differ from other teachers in terms of resource selection because of their dual qualification which merges their teaching expertise and curriculum knowledge with their skills in information services. Classroom teachers are focused on resource selection for their classroom needs whereas the TL has knowledge of and takes into consideration individual teacher’s needs and student’s needs across the whole school.
