The impact that our design will have on the environment has been a significant consideration as part of our design process and solution.

The reduction of waste that is usually generated from multiple pumps has been outlined in the EWB Project Opportunity 5.2, and has constantly been a part of the final design solution. Through using only a single pump, the need for multiple pumps constantly residing in their wells is eliminated, as is the cost of maintaining them. The replacement of parts in a large number of pumps can concur with a large accumulation of litter, which places a strain on the health of the environment. This also impacts the cultural aspects of the Cape York communities, as the extra waste does not follow the beliefs of the Indigenous people of the region. One centralised pump will not only have environmental benefits, but also cultural benefits, through the reduction of waste created by excess pumps.
