Module 1.2 ETL503: Engaging with the Collection

OMG!

How long is a piece of string?

  1. Woodleigh School Library. Three campuses (1 x Senior, 2 x Junior)
  2. List of platforms that the library hosts, manages or supports:
    • Oliver LMS: physical and digital resources, including fiction and non-fiction books, teacher references, digital fiction and non-fiction, databases, equipment, instruments, DVDs, digital video and audio, web-crawlers, encyclopaedias, other libraries. Many of the following resources are linked to Oliver for ‘one-stop’ federated searching.
    • Wheelers ebooks and digital audiobooks: fiction and non-fiction
    • Clickview: digital video and audio
    • Comics Plus by Library Pass: digital graphic resources
    • Scootle: mostly primary resources from ESA
    • Trove: National Library
    • Ergo@SLV: Victorian history
    • Brittanica trial
    • Weblinks by Pledger
    • Wikipedia
    • Google Scholar
    • Edrolo
    • Education Perfect
    • etc.
  3. See above.
  4. Potential issues: there are a lot of platforms and resources! Who manages them if the TL is not replaced? How do you let people know about them? How do you assess relevancy? etc, etc.
  5. Managing a collection is tricky. You’ve got to know how and why resources are collected and managed to create a really library service.
