For my blog post today, I have decided to start by examining the statistical data and presence of two organisations on Twitter:
- Australian Library and Information Association @ALIANational
- Digital Education Research Network @derntwits
@ALIANational | @derntwits | |
Followers | 10900 | 1917 |
Following | 1063 | 2262 |
Joined | June 2009 | January 2010 |
Number of Tweets | 28900 | 550 |
Looking at the information above there is a substantial difference not only between the reach of each organisation but also between their online presence. There is a mere 6 months between each of these organisations beginning their online Twitter presence, however there is a 5254% different between the number of tweets produced. @ALIANational and @derntwits produce their own material they have a larger percentage of retweets on their pages. Both organisations focus on education but the scope of the audience is vastly different. @ALIANational has a national platform, is well known and is an advisor board whilst @derntwits focuses on the networking of educators in digital technologies. @ALIANational has the potential to reach 568% more tweeters than @derntwits due to the number of followers.
It would be possible to assume that due to @ALIANational maintaining a consistent online presence with regular tweets and retweets which impact their followers, that they are more successful. @ALIANational are a national “body for library and information professionals” therefor one could assume that this well-known body would be more identifiable to people. @derntwits operates at a more local/regional level, therefore, their intention to create a network is more restricted.
