PART A – Personal Teacher Librarian Philosophy

An effective teacher librarian has the dual role of teacher and librarian and encompasses the core value of being and developing lifelong learners.

Excellent teacher librarians also:

  • provide free access to information, in a safe and equitable learning environment.
  • promote and foster a community, where a love of literature and knowledge is encouraged and supported.
  • teach skills and programs where learners are enriched in critical, creative thinking and the information process.
  • seek opportunities to lead and collaborate with colleagues, to ensure best practice across all curriculum areas.
  • Develop and manage the library and its resources; providing a comprehensive collection responsive to the needs of the community, supported by a collection management policy in line with the school’s vision.
