An effective teacher librarian has the dual role of teacher and librarian and encompasses the core value of being and developing lifelong learners.
Excellent teacher librarians also:
- provide free access to information, in a safe and equitable learning environment.
- promote and foster a community, where a love of literature and knowledge is encouraged and supported.
- teach skills and programs where learners are enriched in critical, creative thinking and the information process.
- seek opportunities to lead and collaborate with colleagues, to ensure best practice across all curriculum areas.
- Develop and manage the library and its resources; providing a comprehensive collection responsive to the needs of the community, supported by a collection management policy in line with the school’s vision.
