Welcome to the Essence Library, my whimsical home for professional reflection.
I am a library professional who has been working within the information industry since 2021 in a range of roles and public libraries. As a current Children’s Programs Library Assistant at Liverpool City Library in New South Wales, I enjoy utilising my learnt knowledge from my Bachelor of Information Studies – Children’s Librarianship degree to infuse programs in my workplace with enchanting storytelling and playful activities.
I started my library career as a Library Trainee with The City of Sydney Council, working at branches like Darling Square, Ultimo, Waterloo, and Customs House, and across multiple teams including the Home library Service Team, the Cataloguing Team, and the Technology and Maintenance Team.
After I completed my 12 month traineeship, I was successful in gaining a part-time Library Assistant position at my local library network, working at the Camden Library branch. Working within my local community was extremely enjoyable and fulfilling, growing my passion for childrens and youth programs through opportunities to facilitate regular Storytime events. With a growing population at Oran Park, I was able to gain further experience in developing children’s resources by moving to the Oran Park branch.
As I began nearing the end of my Bachelor’s degree, I wanted to gain more opportunities in program development, and was successful in joining the Liverpool City Council Libraries as a Children’s Programs Library Assistant. Working at Liverpool City Council has provided me with so many creative opportunities and has continued to deepen my passion for children’s and youth programming and literature.
As I am in my final semester at Charles Sturt University, I have begun looking forward to the future of my library career. I have begun to research further study options to gain qualifications in Teacher Librarianship, and hope to begin my studies in education in either the second half of 2025, or the beginning of 2026.
I hope to one day utilize my knowledge and experience as a Children’s Programming Librarian in public libraries in order to develop inspiring, creative, and comforting school library environments for primary and secondary students as a Teacher Librarian.
