TL role in IL

As the role of the Teacher Librarian is diverse, information literacy (IL) is also diverse. The diverse nature of IL means that he TL needs to be skilled in many areas in order to convey meaning and understanding to student learning as well as being able to create learning opportunities. An effective TL employees and conveys skills for engaging, understanding and critically and creatively think in the context of IL.

 

Teachers and TLs’ who have been incorporating IL models knowingly or unknowingly will have an easier time in engaging students into IL in a formal manner. Developing IL skills is one aspect of the role of the TL in developing student IL, the other is the actual learning in which students actively engage in IL through investigating, creating knowledge and understanding, assessing and making judgement on the IL concept and thinking creatively in order to collate IL. Engagement in IL extends beyond the classroom or Library and into the digital environment and therefore the global, unconstrained by boarders, seas and oceans.
