Disruptive Technology

The technological challenges facing the workplace are not homogenous, and the disruptive technologies emerging will impact workplaces and VET providers alike. Understanding the future trends predicted for disruptive technologies will assist in formulating strategies for building digital literacy and digital citizenship in teachers and learners (Seet, et al., 2018, p. 20; Reeson, et al., 2019, p. 11; Adams-Becker, et al., 2018). The effect of digital disruption is differentiated from other technology-driven change because of the exponential rate of change that is being experienced. Innovations involving technology facilitate further innovations and recombinations of technologies creating continual growth in this space (Reeson, et al., 2019, p. 11).

The Mckinsey Global institute highlights 12 disruptive technology categories, as below
