Thanks for your post! Social media platforms offer so much scope and opportunity for giving voice to individuals and communities – they can be a powerful tool for social change. Unfortunately, as you note, the public and anonymous nature of these forums can just as easily be used by those who wish to attack or abuse others.
Your discussion reinforced the importance of the role libraries play as places of safety and inclusivity for all, whether it’s in the physical space or online. It’s vital to communicate this position explicitly through library policies and to moderate the library’s online content to ensure consistency.
