Activity: Study Visit to CITAC and HKIC Learning Resource Centre

Description:

The activity is divided into two parts. The first part is a guided tour for us to understand the up-to-date construction knowledge. The second part is a visit followed by a sharing from the librarian in explain the relationship of the special library and the parent institution and its role in supporting the operation of the parent institution, followed by a Q & A session. This activity is suitable for librarians at different levels, especially for students who wish to work in special libraries. The organizer is HKU SPACE and the presenter is Mr Terence Lau, Associate Librarian at Hong Kong Institute of Construction.

Reflection:

The activity introduced the recent developments in construction and technology. The visit to special library and sharing by the librarian explained their work and routine in assisting students or professionals to access information and promote currently updates and awareness in updating professional skills. I only have a shallow understanding towards special libraries. Librarians should keep learning continuously towards different knowledge and aspects for further assist the information needs of the library users, so I attended in this activity. The presenter did not only introduce the latest construction development to us, but also reminded us an important concept, information literacy. Information literacy is an increasingly heated topic in the information society due to the prevalence of false information. It is crucial for users to know how to access correctly, what methods to navigate and how to use information properly. I am able to share my understanding of information literacy to the students in my school.
