Social responsibility of the design is how well the design caters to the social dynamic of the Aboriginal people in Cape York. Cultural responsibility of the design is how well the design takes into consideration the indigenous people’s spiritual belief and cultural heritage. Since the Aboriginal people’s understanding of ‘country’ not only dictate their spiritual belief but also their social hierarchy, it is appropriate to consider both social and cultural responsibility of the design as a single consideration.
The water filtration system is socially and culturally responsible because:
- The water filtration system would allow the local Aboriginal communities that rely on bore water to continue living in country and to continue their social and cultural activities that depend on water.
- The local ecosystem is dependent on fresh groundwater which in turn, will allow Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples to continue traditional customs.
