To be environmentally responsible, the design has to be beneficial for the environment or at the very least, not adversely impact the environment.

The water filtration system is environmentally responsible because:

• The water filtration system is an auxiliary asset to filter out water from pre-existing water bores.
• As the water bores already exist, there is no excavation required to implement the design solution.
• Other alternatives to water filtration such as the desalination plant would require a lot more energy to operate, release more greenhouse gas and waste a lot more water by releasing high salinity water back to the ocean. The high salinity water would also damage the ocean’s ecosystem.
