“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today”.
Education has always been at the forefront of my life, I consider it a way on which the individual can gain powerful insights and perspectives, which in turn filters into society.
I spent many years working in Hospitality, as a Head Chef, both in Melbourne and overseas. Throughout my career I had the opportunity to work and mentor a diverse collection of people. I took much pride in seeing my staff grow professionally and personally. I always enjoyed the training aspect of my position; I found a genuine sense of achievement when others succeeded. I decided to do my T.A.E. and an Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Management. I found these studies extremely rewarding; however, nothing could have prepared me for the actuality of face to face training.
I started my training career at a small private college in Melbourne’s North, literally the first day of my new position, I was teaching a class of twenty women from the Greek Cypriot community. I was slightly terrified yet determined to fake it until I made it. This verbose and welcoming class became one of my groups for the remaining year. I also had the pleasure of working with members of Melbourne’s Sudanese community, based in the North Melbourne council estate, and members of the local Chinese community. I found these experiences vastly rewarding and incredibly valuable for my professional growth. I eventually was promoted to Training Coordinator and oversaw the training programs of two campuses and a plethora of staff and students.
I currently work in the city at a private college with a largely International student base and I enjoy continuing professional development and great relationships with my students. I am looking forward to forging ahead with my career progression and therefore I am now doing my B.A. in Vocational Education. I hope to transfer my new learning into the classroom environment.
Thanks, Tyrone.
