In reality, each of the online learning tools shared in this guide can be considered engagement tools as they all provide features that create enjoyment for students whilst learning.

What is it?

Kahoot! is an online game based platform that allows students to create and play quizzes on a large range of topics. The Kahoot! community allows the sharing of content which means students and teachers can access and adapt established content. 

21st Century skills employed:

Communication, collaboration, metacognition.

How can it be used?

Some ways Kahoot! can be used in the classroom to check understanding at the start, middle or end of any unit of work; generate discussion in class on important topics or concepts or as class polls or ice breakers (Staake, 2021).


Socrative

What is it?

Socrative is similar to Kahoot! mentioned above, in that it is an online quiz platform that can be used in the classroom to gauge student learning. Socrative allows you to easily track student understanding, seek instant feedback in class and is supported by the Socrative Support centre.

21st Century skills employed:

Metacognition, collaboration, communication.

How can it be used?

Socrative can be used to check understanding at various points of learning, as exit tickets for students and as a means of tracking student progress over time.
