For my ITC174 class, I reviewed my digital outcome for the Digital Online Learner Skills Framework. This involved six quiz’s, examining my ability and confidence for online skills. I discovered that I was between an Intrepid Intermediate and an Emerging Expert. However, I did find myself as a bold beginner in one of them.
Quiz one, ‘connect skills’
I achieved the result as an Intrepid intermediate. It was about knowing how to manage tools and software to connect and engage with information. I believe I am confident enough with this quiz. I am a personal learner within social networks such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. I know my way around these social network apps, and by using their tools, I know how to find what I am looking for. I know how to contribute to online discussions and connect with other people around the world, as shown in my results of this particular quiz.
In Quiz two ‘communicate skills’
My result was a Bold Beginner. This quiz is about communication strategies such as virtual presentations and discussions. As a private person, I do not feel as confident in sharing my opinions and knowledge on social media that includes live online meetings and discussions as it comes across as a bit daunting to me. Although, I would like to put myself more out there and boost up my confidence to evolve and change my outlook on this.
Quiz three, ‘Citizenship skills’
This quiz questioned whether I had knowledge of how big my digital footprint was and if I was safe, and within the legal requirements of online behaviour. I was quite confident that I was aware of how big my digital footprint was and that I am an ethical online interactor. I concluded as an Intrepid Intermediate.
Quiz four, ‘collaborate skills’
An outstanding result was shown as I discovered I was an Emerging Expert, recognising how to collaborate virtually with my fellow online learners. I have no doubt in my ability to connect virtually in collaborations and do it all the time when I communicate with my friends using snapchat.
Quiz five, ‘create skills’
This quiz questions whether I can use my online production tools such as audio and video, to work to my advantage creating a professional digital identity. I firmly believe I have these skills and present that in my everyday life with the use of Instagram, and also through my class activities. I achieved the result as an Intrepid Intermediate.
Quiz six, ‘Choice skills’
This quiz is about selecting and managing appropriate tools to assist in online learning. As an Emerging Expert, I am quite confident that my skills in using appropriate tools can help me avoid plagiarism and help me reference correctly, acknowledging other people’s work.
I have learnt that there are much easier ways to schedule meetings with friends, family and work colleagues for both groups and individuals through the use of the software program, Doodle. I have also discovered through my linkedIn profile that I can find new job opportunities by connecting with these groups and businesses.
While setting up my professional profile, my ah-ha moment was when I found teaching groups that could theoretically help me in the future as my goal after my studies is to become a primary school teacher. I believe in connecting with these profiles it can help me with new teaching knowledge, further my education and potentially increase job opportunities.
Connecting online is important because it has shaped this new world. As we are evolving, technology is evolving with us, and it has become one of our daily routines to connect with friends, family and businesses. It helps maintain relationships and can also improve mental and emotional wellbeing. It is also a really great way to find new jobs or finding potential employees with using websites such as LinkedIn, Job Search and Seek.
