Collection Development, Selecting and Evaluating Resources Through to Acquisition

After working through learning modules on the above, it has been clearly brought to my attention that I have some work to do.

There is an absence of policies to direct processes within my library on initial selection of resources right through to budget and everything in between. There was nothing left by the previous librarian that could be found although they departed 4 years before my arrival so it may well have existed at some point but is now lost.

I can clearly see how policies and procedures help a library be efficient with both time and resources and also ensures that the short and long term goals of the library and school are being met. They provide a framework for accountability and also evidence for the value of the library.

I am also now in the know about the importance of an end of year library report. Again, this provides accountability, also a reflection tool on what went well or not so well and can be used as a piece of evidence to promote the library.

This is where I am going to start – https://www.libraries.tas.gov.au/school-library/Pages/school.aspx

and for the annual library report – https://natlib.govt.nz/schools/school-libraries/leading-and-managing/managing-your-school-library/annual-report
