And I’m up and running
When I commenced this subject two weeks ago, I had no real idea about what I would learn in this subject. Already I can see definite links between this subject and ETL503, which I enjoyed immensely. Some questions that I had in ETL503 have already been answered, for example ‘What is SCIS?’. I can honestly say that after a whole semester of trying to use SCIS, I still had no idea what it was for until I commenced this subject. I’m embarrassed to admit that I was trying to use it like Scootle, which of course sounds ridiculous now, however it also shows me that I am learning and am making connections between what I am learning within each subject.
Where am I at with my learning?
So far I have begun to understand about metadata and how it is used within the context of the library. Learning about how data is created and managed is a completely new concept to me as I have never worked in a library. In fact, I have not been familiar with any of the course content up to this point. Perhaps what has confused me most to date is the learning that centred around Z39.50. I am still very confused about this concept and how it will relate to my role as a TL. I am hoping that my understandings begin to build as I engage more with the content.
I am struggling somewhat with the lack of interaction with my peers and teachers in this subject. I have also just noticed that we are not required to blog in this subject, however I feel that reflective journalling really does help me to make connections in my learning so I have decided to continue doing that in this subject also.
Until next time.
