About Me

A little context for my reflections….

I started my Bachelor of Education Upper Primary/Lower Secondary degree at Flinders University in 2002, graduating in 2006 after a gap year spent interstate.

Fresh out of uni I worked as a relief teacher for six months, before moving to Canberra for three years with my husband. Now, if you ever want a permanent teaching role, Canberra is the place to be. Before I even arrived I had a full time position as a Year 6 teacher lined up, and within 3 months was offered permanency. And having lived there again in 2018-19, it was the same scenario. My years in Canberra saw me work at a very multicultural school, with many ESL students in my class.

We returned to Adelaide and I worked at a top private school, with very high expectations of the staff, but when I found the 2-hour daily commute too much, I moved to a lovely small independent school 5 minutes from home. It was here that I was given full autonomy to set up the new Year 5/6 program, including resources, setting up a brand new room, and creating all of the curriculum documents. It was a busy time, but probably the best of my teaching career thus far.

In 2013 we started a family, and since then I have enjoyed my time as a stay-at-home mum.

Fast forward to 2021. My children are both in school and I know it’s time to kick-start my career again – this time in teacher librarianship.
