My knowledge of children’s literature was once fairly in-depth.  Perhaps this was when I was a child myself, perhaps I just thought my knowledge was in-depth!  With the rapidly changing nature of children’s literature, it is important to implement strategies to increase my personal knowledge in this area.  Some of these strategies include:

  • Subscribing to relevant peer-reviewed journals such as The Reading Teacher, SCAN (NSW Department of Education)
  • Becoming a member of librarian or teacher associations such as the Australian Library and Information Association
  • Engaging in professional conversations with colleagues about literature that they have used in the classroom
  • Asking students what literature they are interested in, what they have been reading and/or what they have been engaging with
