If you were not able to attend the Honours Information Evening (Wednesday October 8 2025, 5:3opm-6:30pm), please watch this recording:

To apply for the Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree, you will need to:

  1. Find a project and a supervisor within the school willing to support you. Check here for the latest updates in available projects and supervisors. If you can’t find anything, please email any of the academics you are interested in working with to discuss a different project.
  2. Send your Expression of Interest form to the SDMS Honours Advisor to confirm with your project team & supervisor of the project details (funding, project idea, etc) and their willingness to accept you into the Honours program by clicking here.
  3. Apply for entry to the Bachelor of Science (Honours) program (5507SC) through the Faculty/Admissions office here. A conditional offer might be made when a student is due to graduate but graduation has to have occurred before commencement.
  4. You may receive correspondence from the University, by the Course Director, and Honours Advisor before the official offer is made.

The timeline for applications and enrolment into the Honours program is detailed here, but here are some FAQs answered below.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Do I need to graduate from my undergraduate degree to enrol in honours?
A: Technically no, but you will need to show that you have completed all necessary subjects and requirements for graduation.

Q: Can I apply for honours any time of the year?
A: No. There are two intakes per year, Session 1 (30) at the beginning of the teaching calendar, and Session 2 (60) midyear. That being said, you discuss honours projects with your prospective supervisor any time to prepare you for your application and enrolment.

Q: Do I need to apply for my own research funding?
A: No. Your supervisor will normally have the funds, or is responsible for sourcing the requirements for the completion of your project. Any stipends, scholarships or bursaries are normally used for personal living expenses unless specified otherwise.
