Proposal Topic
What does it look like for a teacher to effectively integrate technology into the elementary classroom?
Organizational Needs
The topic of study was decided in consultation with the Director of Education and a Superintendent of Education for the Superior North Catholic District School Board. It was decided that the whitepaper and video can support teachers within the school board’s professional development. My role as the only Technology Enable Learning Teacher contact for the school board is to support teachers effectively integrate technology into their classrooms. I have been supporting technology integration, however, I can not say with certainty that it has been effectively integrated. Many times I visit a classroom and deliver programming to students while the teacher participates or observes. Many times this is where technology integration ends, it sits on the shelf until my next classroom visit. It will be interesting to study what effective technology integration looks like.
The school board has an interactive whiteboard in each classroom. All students Grade 3 – 8 have their own Chromebook. All teachers have their own board provided teacher laptops. Students Kindergarten to Grade 2 have a 3 to 1 ratio of iPads. Many classrooms have their own document camera. Each school had 2 GoPro cameras. Each School has the following robotics kits: Beebots, Dash and Dot, Lego WeDo 2.0, Sphero, Lego EV3. Each school has its own Greenscreen. Superior North Catholic District School Board is a Google Board and has provided students with a Google Education Account. I am interested in developing guidelines for educators to follow to effectively integrate these tools into their K – 8 classrooms.
