Hello,
I am John Nixon, a second (out of two and a half) year student at Charles Sturt University. I am currently studying a Bachelors of Information Studies with a specialisation in Librarianship. I have also previously studied a Certificate III and Diploma of Library and Information Services in 2018.
My current roles are a full time records management officer at a local council within Sydney and casually a library assistant at a public library. These positions have given me a good insight on the different roles within the information sector.
This blog will reflect on my professional practice in a library setting as I have had experience with performing library services which are catered towards children and young people. In my professional role I have had to assist many children in finding information and items throughout the library and have participated in events which are based around the needs of children.
I will also reflect on previous work placements and how these have shaped my understanding of library services for children and young adults. For my work placement for my diploma, I was placed at a local primary school library in which I assisted in the running of events, classes and management of the collection. This placement gave me a good foundational understanding of how to base services around the needs of children, how children can learn and understand new ideas and the importance of the library in providing information for children to grow and develop.
