The Future of Children’s Literature

Hi everyone!

This is my first post in a little while, life has been so busy!

The future of children’s literature is quite an interesting topic to discuss in today’s digitally saturated environment. I strongly believe that children’s literature should always have a print aspect. It is pivotal that children learn to read through gripping a book. Not only is a physical book great for developing, strengthening and maintaining fine motor skills in young children, there is also an aspect to concentration. A child is much more likely to process the story in print form as they must concentrate and focus more due to limited distractions. There are also clear benefits to children accessing their literature through digital forms, for example being able to carry many titles at once, accessing resources that may not be available in print form and immersion in an interactive experience including sound, music and dialogue.

Although digital forms of resources seem to be taking over in today’s society, there must always be a place for the humble print resource. I believe a harmonious amalgamation of digital and print resources is the way forward for children’s exposure to literature.
