4 Best Practices In Delivery Of Digital Learning Resources

This week I have been tasked with creating my own digital learning resource for one of the subjects I teach in. The following shows my initial planning for this resource.

Initial thoughts

It is clear to me that education has evolved with a need to include the use of digital technology and resources. 21st century teachers must design programs which incorporate the use of digital technology for students to be able to engage in learning in different ways; to meet either the individual needs of students, or to enhance the delivery of a particular subject (Kukulska-Hulme & Traxler, 2019). These digital resources if implemented correctly, have the potential to increase student engagement.

The Technology

The technology tool I have chosen to create my digital resource with is called H5P. (see the video below)

The plan

To develop a 10 minute online activity for learners, using H5P. The resource will be related to the unit CHCEDS025 Facilitate learning for students with disabilities within the Certificate IV in Education Support qualification as follows:

The learning outcomes being addressed by the learning activity.

  • Develop a basic knowledge of a range of disabilities
  • Identify and describe the nature and description of a range of disabilities

The learners’ needs, who are they and what do I expect of them.

  • Learners are preparing to become Education Assistants supporting students with disabilities within mainstream or education support school settings.
  • Learners range in age and experience from school leavers to mature age students. They may have previous experience working in a school and are looking to upskill to provide specialist support for students with additional needs. Others may be looking to enter into this field of work.
  • This learning resource will help build knowledge and skills to be able to effectively contribute to learning experiences for students with a range of disabilities

How this technology creates an experience for learners that is interactive, meets their needs, and addresses learning outcomes.

  • The H5P platform was designed specifically to be interactive and engaging.
  • Addresses different learning styles, students can go back to resource as needed, can be adapted to different groups of students and modes of delivery.
  • Activities will specifically address the objectives above related to UoC requirements of providing support to teachers of students with disabilities and contributing to education adjustments for students with disabilities.

The learning theories I have used in the development/application of this resource.

  • Adult learning principles
  • VAKT learning styles
  • Experiential Learning
  • Constructivism
  • Connectivism

Below is a great resource in relation to connectivism and technology if you use the theory in your future work?
“Research on technology adoption and education provides us with a better understanding of what effective educators can do to enrich their learning environments with the help of digital tools and innovative pedagogies” (Davies, 1989, as cited in Coronado, 2018, section 2, para. 1). .

    Hi there Nigel.
I would like to congratulate you on all your blog posts that you have shared on your Thinkspace page. The appearance and content are very informative and interesting.

After having a look at your plans for your future digital resource that you are creating, H5P is a great way of engaging and educator learners, particularly in your field of Certificate IV in Education Support. The content can be tailored to suite the learning needs of education assistants that support students with disabilities, with H5P being adaptable with many different components to choose from. The activity can be used to demonstrate the need for accessibility for educators to consider when creating a resource, whether that be font size, subtitles or colour palettes for easy reading.

I have previously embedded an H5P activity with a Moodle platform to address identification of parts in an electrotechnological environment. It was received successfully due to the interaction and visual context of the activity. I hope you activity achieves these learning objectives and that you hope for. Your activity could also be used as reference resource for students to reflect upon further down their qualification progression. Being able to reflect on opinions at the beginning and end would be beneficial to emphasising the level of content learnt over a period of time.

Good luck in your creation and with the remainder for your studies.

    Ash
