Before embarking on my Teacher Librarian (TL) journey, the term ‘literacy’ seemed like a simple term with a simple definition. One that could be measured practically through testing methods (such as NAPLAN) to identify a student as having ‘high’ or ‘low’ literacy skills in reading and language conventions. We’re all in this together!

It has been a number of weeks since my fingers typed away in attempt to capture all my conscious workings, from reflections and thoughts to new found knowledge as a novice teacher librarian (TL). It has been a trying time indeed, both professionally and personally, integrating into this new way of life that has been enforced upon the whole world. Despite the challenges that we face today, constant reminders and encouraging slogans/themes relayed across global communities of diverse groups of people and cultures and professions are like silver linings to the dark COVID-19 pandemic cloud that has shrouded the world. It is uplifting and heartening to  truly know, indeed “we’re all in this together”!

My journey to ‘Library Land’

Before embarking on the journey to ‘Library Land’, I had been a secondary science teacher for almost a decade! Science was always my passion.. biological sciences in particular. I loved being in a role where I could inspire learning and share my love of science and the biological world with young people. I loved being in a role where I could observe these young learners be absolutely MIND-BLOWN as they viewed a cell through a microscope for the first time. A first of many

So.. this is my absolute first blog.. EVER! I’m not entirely oozing with confidence in finding my way around customising and creating blog posts, menus, categories and taglines let alone editing primary and secondary pages and side widgets! Having said that, I am excited for the challenges and learning opportunities ahead and the ‘first of many’ new experiences to come.
