Questions and Musings from Module 2.1
- “Data – this term describes discrete and objective facts about an event or thing, which can be used when processing or decision making.” Is data objective? Data must be gathered using questions and parameters chosen by the researcher – doesn’t this make it subjective?
- The added step of “understanding” on The Information Hierarchy (Wideman, 2008) does not convey all that is happening at this step – is this not where critical reading takes place – determining the credibility of data and information and it’s usefulness.
- “information as a traded good” – the list of examples missed at least one important item – the Masters degree!
- When I hit “publish” – I am adding to the information stream and I notice that every time I hit enter or publish on a discussion or post I have changed my mind. I am questioning my own understandings and realising the limitations of my current perspective and experience. I am full of doubt and the need to be responsible for my written (and therefore permanent) words. And I wonder how people can tweet and post so frequently…
