Create a blog: participatory design strategy

Forum post:

  • Select one useful participatory design strategy and explain how you would use this strategy to engage students in the process of redesigning a space within your library.

Participation in my school context is minimal. Parents and carers are not onsite often at all. For this reason I would engage families by creating a blog to express what we are doing in the library.

Our students also love to share and be seen. They would be so delighted to be involved in an interview about what the library means to them and how we can create a more welcoming space. Students have many ideas about what they want. This interview could be a video where I interview different classes about what they would like. Students could be encouraged to design a reading corner for the library. They could draw a map of what they would like.

Interviewing staff and parents would also help to include all stakeholders voices. I could attend a P&C meeting to ask for interest and also ask the wider community. Interviewing other siblings who attended the school before could create a nice buzz around really getting stakeholders opinions.

  • Suggest one way that you could keep school community members updated about the library redesign process

The blog could create real transparency for parents to see what is happening and be actively involved. The blog could also be shared on the school website and also the facebook page. Many of our families look at the fb page for their information so we can really get a lot of involvement.

This post is making me so excited!!!!
