Semester 1 – Reflection on learning
Wow! What a semester!
I have learnt so much and my list of things to do is growing.
Guided Inquiry
Last year I tried to support students in research their own topics. The overarching idea is very closely aligned to GI. I did not even know. I knew I wanted to give my students the opportunity to have control over their learning. I knew I wanted them to present their knowledge of their chosen topics.
After completing 401, I now have a solid grounding in GI. I know where to get my research from. I know how I will conduct my lessons. I know how I will evaluate my lessons.
I have started with the research river. I have only completed lesson 1. My main issue is that most students are so disengaged with their learning. I am trying to give them every opportunity to engage and will keep at it.
I know my students and their needs, I plan to scaffold students learning and understanding with the resources they are given. I have created a Google Site to house information for students (a lib guide of sorts ). I am hoping this will allow for me to further scaffold students who have limited reading abilities to access video, posters and even artwork to use in their research.
I am so grateful for this learning and understanding. So many light globe moments this semester!
Policy and Procedures
I wish I had some of these left from previous Librarians. I had no Policy or Procedures at all to go on and have started from scratch. The only item that has been completed somewhat consistently is stocktake.
I cannot wait to tackle this project. I will slowly start the process this year, with the hope of writing, editing of policy and implementation in 2025.
This will be so helpful for me and the many other teachers who work in the library.
