Research in Practice ETL 567 Subject Reflection

Research in Practise was the hardest subject to understand conceptually but I feel like I have learnt so much about research.

I have been teaching students skills to research for many years but being in the students seat and learning in this way gave me a new perspective in learning to research.

I used all of the skills at my disposal to research and create a research proposal. This was no easy task.

I had a first had look at the importance of understanding Boolean searching and implementing it to find resources that would be suitable for my task.

Not only did I read, I used “talk to me” tech and search items to find the information I needed.

When I was doing the subject, I felt like- why are we doing this- it’s really hard and not about Teaching. Now in hindsight I see that putting us in the students shoes gives us a new perspective on research, on not knowing , reading extensively and coming to a conclusion. We were out through the research process and have a new found understanding. This is invaluable to our futures as TL’s.
