Stocktake: what do I know about children’s literature and what are some strategies you use or could use to increase your professional knowledge of children’s literature
Children’s literature is a loved topic of mine. I love reading books to children that help them understand more about the world. Picture books and children’s literature explores topics so students can understand. Reading a story and unpacking it with my students is one of the most worthwhile activities that can be done at school.
I have so many fond memories of reading a book as a springboard into learning. Some examples of these are as follows:
-to introduce a research project
-to look into a spelling focus
-to pose questions on mathematics
-to learn more about a topic
-reading another book in the series
To further increase my knowledge of children’s literature I will seek to
-keep up to date with new literature by reading books in the library
-follow many other librarians and pages on social media eg engage with the page on facebook
-read with my sons daily to keep up with what they are reading
