About me

A little bit about me…

I live in Sydney and work as a teacher librarian at a 7-12 private school.

I didn’t always want to be a teacher. I finished my undergrad in languages (Japanese, Spanish and Linguistics) and desperately wanted to become a speech therapist. But life got in the way! I moved with my husband to central NSW and no university offered speech therapy as a distance education degree. But I could do a Grad Dip Ed by distance…so I did. I became a high school teacher and landed my first teaching job in the remote WA area of The Pilbara, specifically Karratha. Think red dust, spinifex, no trees and several cyclones every summer. Don’t forget the scorching 45°C! I absolutely loved it. Teaching 5 subjects across years 8-10 was never boring!

After taking a job as an English teacher at a high school in Perth I decided that high school English teaching wasn’t for me. I missed the variety of teaching several subjects and so I decided to become a primary school teacher. Back to uni! I have since gone back to high school, but use skills from all of my previous experience in my current role as a teacher librarian.

Now here I am (studying again!)…never regretting my decision to become a teacher instead of a speech therapist.

Oh, and just to make things even more interesting I did all of this with two children while also seriously competing around Australia and internationally in the sport of fencing. Never a dull moment.

I am looking forward to learning with you all over the next couple of years.
