My name is Lucy Bramble and I’m a primary school teacher from Newcastle NSW.
I graduated 3 years ago with a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary)/Bachelor of Arts and have been working as a casual and temporary teacher in public schools since.
Reflecting on the past 12 months of my career, I realised that the times when I was happiest in the classroom and felt ‘successful’ as a teacher (students having those “AHA!” moments), was specifically when I taught literacy. I found that I was entwining my love of books and reading into every lesson and opportunity that I could..
Teaching children to read and fostering that life long love of literature ultimately sets my soul on fire!
Even after working in libraries here and there, it only occurred to me recently that I could achieve this feeling of success everyday and specifically focus my passion of literature.. as a teacher librarian.
What an honour it would be to behold all this knowledge and information and to have children, teachers, parents and communities seek your advice, wisdom and professional help to access it all. Like Aladdin’s genie in the lamp!
One day I hope I find a school that values me as a person and as an educator. I can’t wait to have my own space to learn and grow as a teacher librarian and assist others on their own unique learning paths.
That is my dream. This is my journey.
And so it begins…
