Your Task

Welcome Stage 3!

This term, for History, you will be continuing to explore the topic of ‘Australia as a Nation’, both during library lessons and during History lessons with your teachers. As part of your learning, you will be researching struggles for the rights and freedoms of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In particular, you will be focusing on the Stolen Generations.

During library lessons, you will work in groups to research the Stolen Generations, record information in a shared Google Doc, organise your information in a Google Slides presentation, and share your findings with your teachers and peers.

This library research guide has been created to help you with your group research task. It is based on the information process, which follows the steps of Defining, Locating, Selecting, Organising, Presenting, and Assessing. Each step of the process involves asking yourself questions that will assist you with your task in different ways. For example, the big idea question in the ‘Defining’ phase is: “What do I really want to find out?” (NSW Department of Education, 2023a). Thinking about this will help you narrow your focus from a broad topic. Looking at success criteria or assessment rubrics before you start your task, as well as throughout your task, will help you stay on track/on topic.

Organising: How can I use this information? Presenting: How can I present this information? Assessing: What did I learn from this?.">

On each tab/page of this website, you will find a variety of resources and information to help you with your learning task, related to each step of the information process. Work your way through each step, going back and forth between steps as required, in order to complete your research project.

If you need additional time or help outside of library lessons, please remember that the library is open every day at lunch play time.

Good luck with your researching, everyone!

Sincerely,
Miss Gallagher
