Gone Home (2013) – Suitable for secondary age students – 14+
I have loved exploring Gone Home which is a transmedia digital narrative which can be downloaded and used as an app. This is a multimodal story with non-linear participatory elements such as maps, web based clues, and phone voicemails. It involves the game like activity of a walking simulator where one of the main activities is searching and finding. I liked the horror style setting which created an intriguing omninous atmopshere. Another pro of this digital story was how the story was quite reflective yet it could be completed in a relatively short time ( a couple of hours). I can imagine that if the story was used in the classroom students could demonstrate their learning through making notes about what evidence they find and presenting their findings and speculations to other class members.
