The Teacher Librarian and Curriculum Development

The teacher librarian has a relevant and significant role to play in curriculum development. They can be involved in collaborative planning of units across all stages, which can assist in ensuring continuity of skills development (ie. General Capabilities) are uniformly and consistently implemented as a whole school priority and focus. This can be achieved through collaboration with classroom teachers on inquiry units of work, whereby classroom teachers can benefit from the specialised teacher librarian knowledge and expertise in information skills teaching and appropriate resource selection.

If given appropriate agency and opportunity by the principal, the teacher librarian also has the capacity to lead professional development to support the development of whole school initiatives that will benefit all students, including the implementation of inquiry learning models as well as NSW DoE related directives (such as the soon to be released Information Fluency Framework).
