For this concept mapping task, I felt the most appropriate leadership style for the principal to adopt would be distributed leadership. This style is about empowering other staff to lead for the benefit of the organisation. This is made possible by recognising the expertise of others (in this case, the teacher librarian) and by providing the opportunity to utilise that expertise in an authentic context.
With the underlying consideration of facilitating teaching staff to embed the Literacy General Capability, I believe the teacher librarian is best to adopt the instructional leadership style. In this capacity, the teacher librarian is the expert, able to offer specialised professional development and growth to teaching staff. This style allows the teacher librarian to lead and demonstrate best practice, through collaborative efforts; in an environment that nurtures and supports this relationship.
