Rowe (2022) specifies that an information resource is “something that contains information”, where information resource description is “the art of describing a resource” (Module 1). In the context of a school, resources include a whole range of physical items such as books and DVDs and also digital items such as ebooks or websites, for example. It is essential that information agencies such as school libraries organise information for ease of resource retrieval. Students and teachers alike will frequently require items which need to be found with efficiency. A disorganised system will most definitely lead to frustration! Resources organised into specifically curated collections would also increase borrowing, as students would know where to locate items of interest. If resources were haphazardly shelved, collections would be difficult to peruse. This practice would also be ineffective for successful time management of library staff, as time would be wasted trying to locate various requested items.
