Last year in my very first year as teacher librarian, I had the pretty unique opportunity to set up a library at a brand-new school – I did a blog post on my Thinkspace blog with before and after pictures and also some reflections on the process. The bulk of the furniture had already been decided months before and plonked into spots that weren’t the best for creating space differentiation and good flow throughout – so I shifted all pieces aside and started from scratch. I also made some new purchases to improve on what we were provided including forward-facing display shelves, to use for the picture books instead of the curved shelves – which aren’t very practical for younger student usage.
