Discussion Forum 6.1 – Influential Teachers and Self-Reflection

Discussion Forum

Influential teachers have developed good relationships with other members of staff. This is often established through meaningful and genuine conversations, shows of respect towards others, willingness to offer help and support, as well as refined leadership skills that seek to allow others to grow and flourish in their own right, without themselves feeling ‘threatened’. These influential teachers also know how much of themselves to ‘give’. They have the confidence to be able to say no to projects that will overload them, so they have a work-life balance, being able to consequently give their all to what they do commit themselves to.

Time management is definitely key to help me become more productive as a teacher librarian. I need to better prioritise the most important jobs and attack these first. I am also an over-the-top perfectionist, and this is a huge drain on my time – in going over and refining things such as programs etc. A quote that resonated with me in one of the readings was: “good time management for teachers means knowing when to be ‘unperfect’” (Wilson, n.d.). I need to working on accepting when ‘done’ is enough!
