After consideration of a number of googled definitions of the terms, these are my own definitions of ‘Deep Web’ and ‘Internet2’:
Deep Web –
The Deep Web is the part of the World Wide Web (ie. Internet) that cannot be found on standard search engines (such as Google or Yahoo) that index regular ‘Surface Web’ websites (those websites existing in the public domain for access by any user). The Deep Web is generally password encrypted, existing for user-pay subscription systems or private database holding sensitive information and details. The purpose of the Deep Web is essentially to provide private, secure or privileged access for users. The Dark Web, is a component of the Deep Web, that is often used for illegal purposes and required a special web browser to access it. The Deep Web is significantly larger than the Surface Web.
Internet2 –
The Internet2 is designed to service the education, research and government sectors with revolutionary functionality and efficiency in its systems, supported by high-end network infrastructure. It is part of the World Wide Web (ie. Internet), and its purpose is to streamline the efficient circulating of learning materials and modules, enable the distribution and sharing of research and facilitate collaborative opportunities throughout the network.
