I just wanted to write to thank the talented Boo, creator of the graphics in my background.
Boo is a Darwin based textiles designer responsible for many beautiful botanical and bird-inspired prints found on cushion covers and bags. I do own quite a few of her printed items.
This series is known as Tomfoolery, the mid-century librarian range. There are three reasons that I was so excited about this. Libraries of course, retro black cats (my other obsession), and mid-century design. The idea of libraries and mid-century aesthetics conjures up wonderful memories of being a student in old university libraries and also the old Brisbane City Council Library before it was modernised. This was where I spent many evenings studying and then catching up with other Brisbane school kids socially. It was a classic mid-century library with industrial green metal catelogue draws, some lovely old timber furniture, grey linoleum, as well as a massive old industrial pedestal fan. It was the time before computers, and I remember scanning the microfiche to find journal articles for my school assignments.
In Boo’s words, Tomfoolery is “the carryings-on of the librarian – and her cat – especially after hours, when things are not always tidy”.
A librarian, her cat, her mid-century library, some pointy glasses, and a bottle of bubbles, sound like my idea of a great night in.
