Julia’s Reflective Journal
Hi Julia,
I have enjoyed reading your blog and have found your approach organised, no nonsense and easy to navigate. It was clean and clear and I immediately found myself drawn to your written work which is in essence the reason why we are doing this. Your writing style is intelligent, compelling and thoughtful. I have had to get my head around so many new concepts, as a new student and feel that your blog is direct, intelligent and didn’t make my head spin.
I appreciated reading your reflective journal and I am happy to notice that we seemed to approach our “Perception of the TL in Schools”, task similarly, i.e. looking at two different schools that we have worked in. I appreciated the optimistic tone of your article, as mine was written after a rather negative encounter with a relative who didn’t see the value of my recent studies or the role of the TL for that matter. I felt some reassurance in the tone of your blog and feel like looking a little differently into the matter. Most of the community in the schools where I work/worked do appreciate the library and the TL and would see that it is an important factor in selecting that school for their child.
The questions that you posted had me reflect seriously and compelled me to answer them. I am now asking many similar questions, especially regarding the future. Where will we be in another 20 years? How are sources of information changing and expanding? How can we assist the learner to navigate their way through this wide ocean of information? How important is it to have skills in technology?
I noticed you mentioned, that you started your career in teaching 20 years ago. I started teaching in the 90s therefore felt glad to happen upon your blog, as I can relate to your posts.
All the best,
