While searching for vlogs from library associations dealing with diversity within their young adult collections, I found this webinar from the New York Library Association (NYLA) on how to build a diverse and inclusive young adult collection. It details a criteria list librarians can use to ensure that purchases to build a young adult collection that contains works that are diverse and inclusive. For each of the criteria they provided examples of recently published works that would be excellent additions to your library collection. I enjoyed the reading guide examples and found myself searching for a few titles while I was watching the video (always a good example of an engaging reading guide). I also found myself searching for a couple of websites that were mentioned during the presentation, which lead to some great resources dealing with including diversity in a library’s collection. It was definitely a great vlog to watch, and I recommend watching the other episodes the NYLA have released.
