Welcome to my Thinkspace blog, my name is Katherine Dimmick and I am currently studying a Bachelor of Information Studies (Librarianship Specialisation) through Charles Sturt University. This is a change of career degree which has offered me the opportunity to enhance and expand my knowledge and skills to better reach my goals.
My goal for the future is to continue my studies in collection management, preservation, and curation, and utilise this knowledge to expand my career into more senior roles within the information sector. Thanks for visiting!

CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) AND NETWORKING PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT
As an emerging information professional I believe it is important to develop and improve your professional practice through Continued Professional Development (CPD). Through CPD you are able to upskill your current skills and learnings, update your knowledge on emerging trends and developments, and direct your career to where you want to be in the future. CPD is a conscious and proactive decision to continually learn, upskill, network, and enhance your qualifications which ensures that you stay up-to-date and relevant in your chosen field or sector (Parsons, 2022; Williams, 2022). As a change of career move into the information sector, continued professional development has supplemented the new learnings and skills that I have gained through my academic degree. It has assisted me in planning the next steps of my career, both academically and professionally, by providing insight into the different pathways available within the information sector. No matter our profession, we are constantly learning and evolving, and CPD is an important factor in that process, allowing us the opportunity to discover the subjects and core values that drive us to achieve greatness within our professions, our organisations, and ourselves.
I see professional networking as a way to build relationships with individuals within the information sector and to stay abridged to developments or innovations happening throughout the sector. Professional networking is about the cultivation of relationships, both face-to-face and online (Badoer et al., 2021). These networking relationships provide a vast array of benefits including tips, guidance, and cross-collaboration (University Lab Partners, 2023). Through professional networking, I have had the opportunity to ask questions and seek guidance from those who are actively involved in the information sector, reinforcing the importance of both CPD and professional networking in my future career.
