Collection Analysis – A quick snapshot!

Truly, collection analysis seems daunting! Being new to the TL role this year and coming into a library where there was no set collection policy documents or procedures for collection analysis, this module has made me excited and nervous all at the same time.

From the Johnson (2018) reading, I can see how both qualitative and quantitative methods have already started to swirl in my brain this year.

The quantitative methods that I think are suitable and practical:

– loan statistics

– circulation statistics

– e-resource use and statistics

I find these quantitative methods easy to implement as the data needed is easily accessed from my LMS.

The qualitative methods I think are suitable and practical are:

– user opinion surveys

– communication with staff and stage assistant principals

– user observation
