For this assignment we want you to explore using a different search engine rather than Google. The search engine we want you to use is called kidzsearch. It has a number of features to help you organise your search.
You should definitely look at the book sources and identify some of the musical techniques and features of Jazz first. Identify some key words and terms and put them into the search engine.

You can use the search engine to identify musical techniques.
Having identified the name of a musical technique or feature you can use the search engine to find out more about it.
You want to begin with the idea that you are going to generate search words and terms. A search word could be the word you have discovered for a musical technique like “backbeat”.
You might find other words connected with it like “straight beat” that can be used for further searches.
If it is a term with more than one word, you might also check using one of the words ie “straight” which may be a better way of identifying “straight beat” in the text if the search is more geared to words rather than terms. To search for a term you should put it in quotation marks ie “straight beat” as this will tell the search engine you are looking for a term.
You should record your search terms in your music exercise book and be thinking about how you can improve and expand your search. What are some ways you can find out about to improve your search? Can you think of ways to improve your searching? Are there other students who might be able to suggest some ideas to you to improve your search? Ask and see what some other students can suggest.
