This is a fun and approachable cartoon version of jazz history that also mentions a number of the key genres and musicians along with techniques and features in a short easy to watch video. It is a fun introduction to the topic with a little of the information you need to get started.

This is an example glossary though it deals with more than the features and techniques of Jazz. It also has links to YouTube videos of performances.

This one is a little more advanced but it mentions a number of the techniques and features of Jazz.

This resource describes some of the features and techniques of negro spirituals, many of which were later imported into different styles of Jazz including the Blues, Dixieland, Gospel, Ragtime and later styles of Jazz.

This one has an explanation that includes and easy explanation some of the key techniques and features along with a short video.
The Relationship Between Jazz and Gospel Music
Another way of really getting to know the techniques and features of jazz is by comparing the different Jazz styles like Dixieland and Blues. To be able to search like this you need to get to know the different styles and genres of Jazz, and these resources will also help introduce you to those. This article is a good example. Try some searches using the search engine that involve searches like “Blues and Dixieland” with words like “compare” and “difference between”. Notice too how this article mentions Jazz and Gospel as different genres, though Gospel is often regarded as a form of Jazz.
