As part of my preparation for Assessment 2, I looked up my school’s Strategic Plan. The Plan’s Mission Statement has 11 bullet points of things they would like to see achieved. Their bullet points are in bold. My quick brainstorm of ideas for how the library could support them are in bullet points below theirs:
- An integration of Christian faith and character in all student learning;
- Investigate and purchase high quality books on faith and Christian character
- Highlight these in library displays and ask about putting them on wall-mounted displays in the student common room
- Excellence in Christian education from a Christian Biblical worldview;
- Partner with teachers to provide excellent quality resources for their lesson plans.
- A Christian education community where every person is valued and nurtured in their faith and healthy relationships are promoted;
- Create an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued
- The physical space is welcoming
- The staff is welcoming
- Encourage parents to come borrow books before and after school
- Weekly clubs for all year levels to mix
- Highlight a mix of subject area teachers and their role in the school (not just literacy areas)
- Focus on customer service
- Greeting students when borrowing
- Prompt responses to communication
- Create an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued
- Enhanced partnerships between parents, students and staff, strengthening the teaching and learning process;
- Newsletter articles highlighting literacy and information literacy news and information

- The provision of high quality facilities and resources;
- Keep the library clean and orderly
- Timely deselection so resources are relevant and in good condition
- Refurbishment of furniture so the library is a welcoming space
- Rotate items of interest in displays to keep people coming back and engage them
